The history of the Grey Cock can be found at The History of the Grey Cock Folk Club , set up by Pam Bishop. There is a piece written by Mike Turner, about the formation of the club and the first 10 years of running , a list of guests booked from May 1968 to November 1982 and photos taken at the club, so I do not intend to go into much detail about the club here.
The club was originally opened on December 18th 1966 at the Roebuck, and after 8 months it moved to the venue that most people remember, the White Lion on the Horsefair. In April 1976 through to July 1979 they moved from the Crown to the Victoria, then from September 1982 through to April 1983 they moved back to the White Lion. Their penultimate venue was the Star from April to December 1983, with the final venue before the club closed down in December 1986, being the Wellington in Bromsgrove Street.
A series of adverts from the Broadside Magazine together with leaflets, produced by the club, can be seen by clicking on the images below.
If you have any information like posters, leaflets or articles, about this or any other clubs, organisers or venues, I would be grateful if you could send a copy to: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
