Coleshill Folk Club was formed by Angus Grant, Nigel and Hinton, when they realised that there were a lot of folk music followers around the Coleshill area, who had to travel to either Solihull or Sutton Coldfield to a club. The opening night on 22nd March 1969, at the George and Dragon in Coleshill, was a great success with around 100 people turning up to see Birmingham's premiere folk act, the Ian Campbell Folk Group performing to a full house. The following week the guests were John Swift and Tommy Dempsey, another of Birmingham's top folk acts. On 19th May, the guests were, the Armpit Jug Band, followed by a repeat visit for John and Tommy on 14th June, and 28th June saw a visit by Bob Lapworth and the Singing Tradition. The club continued to flourish until 1971, when Nigel and Bridget moved away to Shropshire, when unfortunately, it closed down.
John & Nigel also ran the Heart of England Folk Festival in 1970 and 1970, more details of which can be seen in the festival section of this website.
