Gentlefolk came into being in the early 70's, and originally ran at the Navigation Inn, Stratford Road, Wooton Wawen initially on Sunday evenings, . Following licensing issues at the Navigation, it had to close temporarily, but once the issues were sorted out they re-opened at the Navigation on Thursday evenings again as Gentlefolk One About the same time Gentlefolk Two came into being on a Sunday night at the Cherry Trees Motel, Stratford Road, Alcester. It finally closed in 1979, having booked some of the biggest names on the folk circuit, including Decameron, Barbara Dickson, Jasper Carrott and Chris Rohmann.
Many thanks to Martin Green for getting in touch through the website and allowing me to scan and use all the club programmes /photos , which are displayed .below, also to Nikki Bosworth for the cuttings from her scrapbook detailing the history at the Navigation.
Gentlefolk also ran trips to the Playhouse Theatre in Cheltenham to see Decameron's annual Christmas Pantomime. The programme for the 1980 show can be seem after Gentlefolks memorabilia below.
