On 28 February 1982, (age 35), Nic Jones was involved in a serious road traffic accident. Returning home by car after a gig at Glossop Folk Club, he drove into a lorry and suffered serious injuries, including many broken bones and brain damage, The injuries required intensive treatment and hospitalisation for a total of eight months, after which Nic was unable to continue as a touring folk musician.  Immediately following his accident , and during the months afterwards, the folk fraternity, held concerts, ceilidh's and club nights, where the proceeds were given to Nic and Julia (his wife), in order to help them through their traumatic ordeal. In Nov 1982 Steeleye Span appeared in concert at the Odeon cinema.
