Early Birmingham Folk Clubs 1950 To 1980
This project was started as the result of John Percy passing on to me a collection of folk leaflets, posters and handouts from his folk club days in Brum during the 70s. I, in turn, have appealed to people associated with the clubs for memories and memorabilia from those times.
With what people have sent me, as well as what I have gleaned from magazines donated by John Denny (articles and listings from The Broadside and Grapevine), I have now built up quite a bank of information.
This information, although comprehensive, has still got gaps in it - for example when clubs closed but may have re-opened with a new name or at a different venue
It is these precise dates, along with other printed material or memories of specific clubs, that would be invaluable.
Alternatively, within each article, a “Comments” box has now been included to allow people to add any relevant information etc.. The editor reserves the right to moderate any of the information entered in the comments box and may also incorporate any relevant facts into the history articles on this website.
